“Basil Kirchin (August 8, 1927 - June 18, 2005) was a British drummer and composer. His career stretched from playing drums in his father’s big band at the age of 13, through scoring films, to experimenting with the manipulation of recorded sounds which has seen him cited as “the father of ambient music.”

“Drawing from his interest in the supernatural, Hernan Bas’s Occult Contemporary responds to the recent proliferation of the occult in mass media with a presentation of new paintings depicting a representation of the devil based on traditional texts and folklore. Playing on the term “Adult Contemporary,” used to describe a light genre of popular music, the title of Bas’s show plays on this act of genre-fication which has made the presence of the occult and supernatural in books, movies, and t.v. accessible to children and young adults, extinguishing any aura of danger or taboo that the occult once held…”.

Since opening her shop in Miami’s Design District in 2008 at the ripe age of 21, jewelry maker Nektar De Stagni has churned out inventive twists on old classics: pearls strung together with happy faces, and rings encrusted in sea sand. Her newest collection, 1111, is no less original, taking the ropey, bungee-cord trend and glitzing it up with crystal bling.
De Stagni is fearless in her use of materials and texture while managing to steer clear of the wacky or unwearable. In the neon yellow and blue leather necklace, for instance, she combines crystals, ball chains, pearls, and enamel caps into a bright, harmonious whole.
